Description

This course will provide you with the knowledge, confidence and practical skills that are required to work on the installations, service, maintenance, recovery and leakage checking of stationary refrigeration systems/equipment, air conditioning and heat pump equipment with a charge more than 3kg or 6kg (if hermetically sealed).

This is aimed at those working within the refrigeration and air-conditioning industry who need to meet the legal requirements as per the F-Gas regulations 2014 for working with fluorinated gases HFC’s (GWP), and other Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) Such as CFC’s & HCFC’s.

Learning Outcomes from the Course:

  • Basic systems, principles and units and how they relate to theory and thermodynamics of vapour compression cycles and refrigerants used in the industry.
  • Causes and effects of global warming and ozone depletion (GWP & ODS)
  • Identification of air conditioning and heat pump components, functions and leakage risk associated with these systems.
  • Hazards, safe working practices, risk assessments and method statements.
  • Construction and examination of pipe work with associated systems in the industry.

 

Practical elements of the course

  • Recovery of refrigerant and oil and prepare for disposal (controlled hazardous waste)
  • Pressure testing, tightness testing and evacuation and record completion.
  • Refrigerant charging, leak checking and record keeping
  • Fabrication and fitting of mechanical and brazed joints
